Angesichts der vielen flugfähigen zweisitzigen Spitfires, die der Öffentlichkeit derzeit im ganzen Land einmalige Flugerlebnisse bieten, ist es interessant, dass jede Spitfire T.9 ursprünglich ein einsitziges Jagdflugzeug war, entweder eine Mk.VIII oder, häufiger, eine Mk.IX. Obwohl die Spitfire mit über 20.000 produzierten Exemplaren wohl das berühmteste Kampfflugzeug der Geschichte ist, wurden während des Zweiten Weltkriegs keine offiziellen zweisitzigen Trainingsvarianten produziert. Die aktuelle Flotte der Spitfire T.9, ein Nachkriegsphänomen, trägt dazu bei, das Erbe dieses großartigen Flugzeugs zu bewahren.
