Voyager 1 kann mit Fug und Recht als „Pseudo-Bootleg“-Album bezeichnet werden, da es eine von der Band unterstützte, offizielle Aufnahme war, die wie eine inoffizielle Piratenveröffentlichung aussehen sollte (und dementsprechend die Katalognummer Jolly Roger 2 erhielt). Das Album wurde produziert, um die Band über das damals neu gegründete US-Indie-Label Vernon Yard Recordings auf dem amerikanischen Markt einzuführen. Die Musik wurde 1992 bei Konzerten in London und New York aufgenommen und vor dem Debütalbum A Storm In Heaven im folgenden Jahr veröffentlicht. Diese Wiederveröffentlichung wurde von den originalen analogen Quellen gemastert und die Lacke wurden von Geoff Pesche in den Abbey Road Studios geschnitten.
