This highly detailed model features sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings, making it ideal for smooth running and easy rake-building.

Designed for suburban and local passenger duties, 140 of these large ‘Prairies’ were built at Swindon Works between 1929 and 1949. They were a development of Churchward’s 31XX/51XX design, modernised under the guidance of GWR Chief Mechanical Engineer Charles Collett.

No. 5153 was new to Chester West shed in March 1930, enjoying a long service career of almost 35 years. It later moved to Newton Abbot in the 1940s, then spent a spell at Kidderminster before reaching Leamington in 1964, where it was withdrawn just three months later and scrapped in June 1965.
