Libec High-Performance Field Broadcast Pedestal System: Outside Broadcast Platform (GH85 / P110B / PH-8B)

In electronic field production (EFP), multi-camera live sporting events, and remote outside broadcasting (OB), camera movements must maintain absolute precision. However, unlike a highly controlled indoor television studio, an outside broadcast environment demands a pedestal that can handle rugged transport, tight locations, and rapid layout changes on different surfaces while supporting heavy camera kits.

The Libec High-Performance Field Broadcast Pedestal System—meticulously configured with the flagship GH85 100mm continuous fluid head, the rugged P110B pneumatic column pedestal (OB Version), and a dual-set of PH-8B extendable pan bars—is engineered precisely to conquer this challenging environment. Supporting a heavy-duty system payload threshold of 30kg (66.0 lbs), this package represents Libec's premiere portable 100mm configuration for outdoor live broadcast trucks, sports journalism, and high-tier location filming.

1. P110B Pedestal Column & OB Dolly: Built for Outside Broadcasts

The core structural distinction of this system is the Libec P110B Pedestal Base. While the "S" variant is optimized for indoor studios, the "B" (Outside Broadcast) version is engineered for portable, rugged field work.

  • Dual-Mechanism Pneumatic Control: The upper portion of the 2-stage column is air-pressurized, balancing the camera gear's downward weight against a pneumatically sealed cushion of air. An included high-pressure air pump allows operators to calibrate the pressure with the camera attached. This provides a fluid, zero-gravity vertical stroke of 75cm (29.5") that allows operators to adjust height mid-shot.

  • Mechanical Lower Lockout: For long fixed-angle shots, the lower mechanical column securely locks into place, ensuring an absolutely rigid foundation with zero vertical drift.

  • Double-Bearing Bottom Architecture: Heavy vertical panning can cause lesser pedestals to wobble or flex. The P110B integrates a heavy-duty double-bearing array at its base, isolating and neutralizing side-to-side micro-movements.

  • DL-8B Outside Broadcast Dolly: The P110B is paired with the specialized DL-8B folding dolly. Built from high-strength aluminum alloy, it can be quickly disassembled from the column and folded up for space-saving storage inside broadcast trucks.

  • Large 125mm (4.9") Single-Wheel Casters: Optimized for outside use, the dolly features oversized single-wheel casters that roll smoothly over cables, dock pavements, and temporary flooring. It includes a user-friendly foot-activated double-stopper mechanism that locks both wheel rotation and axle tracking simultaneously with a single touch.

2. GH85 Fluid Head: Continuous Counterbalance & Professional Metering

At the apex of this field package sits the Libec GH85, the definitive high-capacity 100mm fluid head built from entirely new molds to withstand rigorous field deployment.

  • Continuous Perfect Counterbalance: Moving away from traditional stepped increments, the GH85 provides fully continuous internal spring adjustment. This lets operators dial in the exact tension to offset the weight of large viewfinders, field monitors, and teleprompters. Once balanced, the camera floats perfectly at any tilt angle (+90° to -70°) without dropping.

  • Integrated Counterbalance Meter: A crucial feature for fast-paced remote sets, the built-in physical meter lets you visually verify the inner spring tension. This makes camera re-rigging and multi-operator swaps incredibly fast.

  • 8-Step Drag System (7 + Free Mode): The premium, multi-layered metal structure pan and tilt drag unit features 7 steps of variable fluid friction alongside a zero mode for rapid tracking or whip-pans, delivering smooth, jitter-free cinematic tracking.

  • Left-Side Accessory Ports: The casting includes native 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded ports on the base. This allows you to bolt on articulated arms or external production accessories without mounting them to the camera cage, keeping your balancing parameters unaffected.

3. PH-8B Dual Extendable Pan Handles: Maximum Mechanical Leverage

Managing a fully outfitted 30kg broadcast camera rig requires significant physical control. This configuration includes a dual set of Libec PH-8B Extendable Pan Bars mounting to both rosettes of the GH85 head.

The PH-8B handles feature high-traction rubberized grips and an adjustable, telescoping aluminum-alloy shaft that extends from 400mm to 560mm (15.7" to 22.0"). This added length provides exceptional physical leverage, allowing operators to execute ultra-slow, sweeping panning shots or maintain steady control under heavy wind loads on location.

These are BRIGHT
Color: Yellow & Spot Flood Combo, Color: Yellow & Spot Flood Combo
These are dang BRIGHT! Let’s see how they hold up over time. Using them as Ditch/Spot lights and are great. I had to buy some spade connectors to complete the install but other than that it’s easy to complete the install. I had some brackets from another company to complete my install so the fit looks great.

Color: Yellow & Spot Flood Combo, Color: Yellow & Spot Flood Combo
**Update** Changed from 3 to 4 stars I contacted the seller in regards to the deffective light. They were amazing and sent a replacement immediately. Great communication and customer service, so far so good, if it happens again I will update the review. ___________________________________________________ I loved these lights; they were super easy to install and had great brightness; unfortunately, after 6 months, water started to get inside, and now they don't work anymore; it's a shame... I sent an email to customer service, and I'm still waiting for their response. If anything I'll update this review. If it wasn't for that, I would have given them 5 stars.

CAN be used for simple Home Theater but really shines when playing music.
Style: R-S202BL, Configuration: receiver only
First: YES, you can use this as an AV receiver *IF* you have a simple home theater setup and are willing and know how to run a digital to analog audio converter from your TV to the inputs of the receiver. BestBuy sells an inexpensive and intuitive unit. HOWEVER, if you have several devices associated with your home theater (i.e. more than 2 -- then this probably isn't a great option for you). I generally prefer Vintage Stereo equipment -- My ideal receiver was the Yamaha CR-2020. But sadly, those are hard to come by and have are more expensive and like a used car -- you don't really know what maintenance you have ahead of you. I had inherited a Sony AV receiver that pre-dated HDMI. It worked and I could even program my Logitech remotes with it. However, it really didn't bring the best sound out of my speakers -- a pair of original Large Advents. Plus, it seemed like it was starting to give up the proverbial ghost. My AV setup is pretty simple since I dumped Time Warner -- or whatever they are calling themselves these days. I have a TV, Roku Streaming stick and that's it! I don't have a living room that would accommodate 20 speakers and a sub without tripping over them (my cats and dog and kids shoes provide enough of an obstacle field). The downside -- this isn't really intended to be an AV receiver. No Optical Audio in... no HDMI ports... you have to make it work if you want to use it for your TV as well. I purchased an Insignia Digital to Analog Audio converter -- you plug in the HDMI cable from your TV into the input and use RCA cables as the output to plug into the receiver. This little gizmo was about 25 bucks so I was still saving quite a bit of money over "full-featured" AV receivers. The sound for the TV is fine -- You aren't going to be fooled into thinking you are in an IMax theater or anything. But that wasn't my primary concern. I really wanted my music to sound great. And playing music is where this receiver really shines! I *REALLY* like the Bluetooh connectivity so that I can play from my computer, cell phone without having to use a patch cable to plug into the receiver. It has a very simple interface -- mainly because there just isn't that much functionality. push a few buttons and you'll be able to figure it out without a manual. I know several reviewers have commented on the flimsy clips for the speaker wire but I have some fairly heavy gauge wire and it doesn't works just fine. I don't use banana plus -- just run the copper straight in. Once you get it set up, you shouldn't have a problem -- it isn't like you are constantly re-wiring your speakers. I was able to purchase this for less than 120 bucks and it drives my vintage Large Advents really well. It provides a beautiful full sound for a wide variety of musical genres. Maybe one of these days, I'll stumble across another great vintage receiver. But for the money and the convenience of a remote and bluetooth, this receiver can't be beat. [NECAR}
