Acknowledged by T. S. Eliot as one of the chief sources for his great poem "The Waste Land," Jessie L. Weston's From Ritual to Romance remains a landmark of anthropological and mythological scholarship. In this book she explores the origins of the Grail legend, arguing that it dates back to a primitive vegetation cult and only later was shaped by Celtic and Christian lore.To prove her thesis, Weston unites folkloric and Christian elements by using printed texts to prove the parallels existing between each and every feature of the legend of the Holy Grail and the recorded symbolism of the ancient mystery cults. Specifically, she finds the origin of the Grail legend in a Gnostic text that served as a link between such cults and later Celtic and Christian elaborations of the myth.
With erudition and critical acumen, the author provides illuminating insights into diverse aspects of the legend: the task of the hero; the freeing of the waters; medieval and modern forms of nature ritual; the symbols of the cult (cup, lance, sword, stone, etc.); the symbolism of the fisher king; the significance of such deities as Tammuz, Adonis, Mithra, and Attis; the meaning of the adventure of the Perilous Chapel in Grail romances; and much more.
Awarded the Crawshay Prize in 1920, this scholarly yet highly readable study will interest any student of the Arthurian legends, mythology, ancient religion, and Eliot's poetry.

Adorable Fathers Day book!
Format: Board book
I got this book for my husband for Father’s Day, and it’s absolutely adorable. The message is sweet and heartfelt, focusing on how Dad supports, plays with, and loves his child. The writing has a lovely, warm tone that’s perfect for reading aloud together.
The book itself is also excellent quality — it has a thick padded cover and sturdy board book pages that can withstand little hands. The illustrations are vibrant with great color contrast, which keeps our toddler engaged. Highly recommend as a gift or a bedtime staple for any dad and child duo!

I just got this for my son and his Daddy. The story is so cute and I may have gotten choked up at the end. If you’re looking for a story for your man to read to your little one(s), I highly recommend this one!

Lovely, adorable & well-written - perfect, "daddy" book!
Format: Board book
I bought this book for my son (and maybe a little for my husband lol) when I realized he had 3 "mommy-centered" books, but none for daddy. I wanted one with quality artwork that also had a more tender and meaningful approach, rather than just silly, one that could foster appreciation of my husband and how much he loves my son.
I had a difficult time narrowing down which book to get, but I am SO very glad that this is the one I went with. The pictures are adorable, the rhythm & rhyming are very well done and flow well, and the message of the book is exactly what I was hoping for, showing how daddy helps baby learn and grow and how much they love each other. My son loves it!
