Overview

The Q2000 offers the ability to process industrial-scale sample volumes in individual batches or flow-through applications. This system is recommended for processing large quantities from 1 L to 20 L or larger. Routine applications include emulsification, cell lysis, degassing, homogenization, solubilizing, deagglomerating and dispersing.

This model is available with a 100um amplitude, 1.5 inch diameter, 10 inch long probe for batch volumes or a flocell accessory for inline processing (other probe sizes are available). A booster is included with the Q2000. The booster increases the amplitude of the probe which enables larger volumes to be processed.

The Q2000 Sonicator allows the user to program processing times and a full range of intensity settings. Processing time can be set from 1 second to 10 hours. A pulsing feature is standard. Pulsing can reduce the amount of heat generated by sonication when processing temperature sensitive samples. A temperature monitoring probe option is also available.

  • PROGRAMMABLE OPERATION - Set time and amplitude for hands free operation
  • PULSE MODE - Prevent heat buildup in temperature sensitive samples
  • DIGITAL AMPLITUDE / INTENSITY CONTROL - Output intensity can be set from 20-100%
  • ELAPSED TIME INDICATOR - Displays duration of sonication
  • DISPLAY OF WATTAGE AND JOULES - Real-time energy monitoring
  • OVERLOAD PROTECTION - Prevents damage to circuitry if a fault occurs
  • TEMPERATURE MONITORING - Optional temperature probe

The Q2000 unit is available in 3 options:

    • A system with a 1.5" #4777 probe and booster
    • A system with a 1.5" #4777 probe and booster plus a clamp, stand, and sound enclosure.
    • As a single unit by itself without a probe, booster, etc.

Please note the stand is sold separately, unless you choose the package option that states it is included. A sound enclosure is very strongly recommended.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a 4 week lead time on Q2000 Sonicator units. The Q2000 is only available in 220V line voltage. The Q2000 requires a fused, single phase, 3-terminal grounding type electrical outlet capable of supplying 50/60 Hz at 220 volts or 240 volts. It requires a 20 amp circuit. Due to the high power of the Q2000, its operation requires that the converter be cooled with dry, clean, compressed air (10 psi at 5+ cfm).

    FAQ

I have a high-temperature application. What is the maximum temperature that I can operate the probe in?

The probe itself can withstand temperatures as high as 140°F / 60°C. Higher temperature applications may be able to be accommodated, but they would require a custom probe. Please contact us with the details of your application to see if a special probe can be designed for it.

How viscous of a substance can a Sonicator homogenize?

Due to the large size of the probes for the Q2000 Sonicator, it is not suitable for high-viscosity substances. If you have a substance that is more viscous than water, but under 50 cps, please contact us and we may be able to test it.

Anything over 50 cps will not be able to be processed using the Q2000.

Is the Q2000 UL listed or CSA approved?

Not explicitly, but all Sonicators are cTUVus certified. This certification combines the common UL and CSA standards for electronic equipment and is accepted as equivalent for most regulatory purposes.

How frequently does the ultrasonic horn (probe) need to be replaced?

Unfortunately that doesn't have a set answer. There are too many variables that effect the life of a horn and Qsonica has never done a study on the life span of a horn. Under light use and an application that is easy on the horn, an ultrasonic horn might last years. With continuous use and an unfavorable application, it might only last days.

The life span of a horn is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to:

    • The presence of solids. Particulate will wear the horn. The larger, harder, and more concentrated the particulate, the faster the wear.
    • Acidic solutions will wear the horn faster than neutral or basic solutions.
    • Using the probe at higher amplitude will wear the horn faster.
    • The size of the probe. Smaller diameter horns wear faster than large ones, as they operate at higher amplitudes and have less titanium available to wear.

Ultimately, you will need to empirically determine how long your horn will last in your application. You'll know it needs replacing when your processing starts to become less efficient.

Can the Q2000 Sonicator be remotely controlled?

Yes, via a 9-pin D-sub connector. Please see the below image for details.

What is the nature of the connection on the converter for the compressed air?

The top of the converter has a hose barb fitting for connection of a 1/4" ID tube, as shown below.

Good quality, if you keep them oiled last a long time
If you keep these oiled and do not soak them, these boards last a long time. Good variety of sizes, durable (I use the larger 2 daily), and again, if you keep them oiled, easy to wipe down and haven't shown a sign of splitting. Durable as well. Would buy again.

    Better than thin plastic boards
I used to use one of those thin/bendable plastic cutting boards, thinking it's easier to transfer food into pots/pans from the board, but they tend to get bent in time and they're simply too thin and I hated the feeling of my knife pretty much hitting the kitchen counter. So, I decided to buy this set. I wanted to try a wooden board, but didn't want to spend too much in case I didn't like it, and this set had the perfect price tag and I liked the fact it came with 4 different sizes, so that I can see what size would actually be more useful. I've been using it for 2 months now they're doing great (except one of them started splitting a bit and started showing some strange black dots on the side... possibly mold??? though I can't think of any reason why mold would grow on just one of them. Maybe it's related to the fact that it's the only one that's cracking. And this is the only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.) Anyway, apart from that one, the rest are doing well and having 3 boards is plenty. I like the juice groove to avoid spilling liquid on the board, as it happened so many time using the bendable plastic boards. I'm handwashing them with dish soap. They seem to dry pretty fast, and so far no stains etc. on the surface. They're not super duper thick so even the largest one is not too difficult to handle. I sometimes use them to serve some food like appetizers, snacks, pizzas and sandwiches, etc. too!

    Updated review: spitting and splintering
UPDATE: Originally, one of the boards arrived with a split in it, but I was still happy with them. After a few weeks of light use, hand washing and drying of the boards, I figured it was time to update this review and knock these down to 1 star. The boards do not hold up very well. Cut marks are deep, and they are starting to splinter. Another of the boards has also developed a split. Save your money and go with cutting boards from someone else. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought these cutting boards to cut down on microplastic exposure. This would be a 5 star review except that one of the boards arrived cracked (noticed while hand washing all of them before use). Despite the one cracked board, I did not return them, as I immediately started using the boards, was too busy to deal with it at the time, and the overall value was still there. These boards are great, the value is excellent since you get several of different sizes. I like that all sizes have the moat for juices, because sometimes you are cutting one or two chicken breasts or one steak and don’t want to have to grab a big board. I honestly am writing this review because I wouldn’t be surprised if the company sends me a replacement. If they do, I will update the review to reflect their customer service.
