We are thrilled to share this unique design intervention we did that celebrates an endangered craftsmanship: the gold foil technique of Bandlu, a traditional art practiced by generational artists in rural Rajasthan. 
This exquisite heritage technique is increasingly rare within traditional rural artisans in India, with only a handful of skilled silversmiths continuing the practice, as many designs are now being produced using machine gold plating—often indistinguishable to the untrained eye. The designs are often very traditional, here we have used simpler forms for a modern tribal look that also highlights the beauty of this style of silversmithing. This process involves bezel setting silver on silver backplate, with 24K gold foil attached onto the component before bezel setting, using a pressure-and-heat method similar to keum-boo.
