Het centrale thema is rijkdom; er zijn geldkaarten met actiemogelijkheden, kaarten die interactie met geldkaarten hebben en dure, krachtige kaarten. Verder bevat het spel 9 tableaus en een voorraad munten en overwinningspuntenfiches. Dominion Welvaart is uitsluitend in combinatie met Dominion of Dominion Intrige te spelen. Dominion Welvaart maakt het mogelijk om meer met geldkaarten te doen. Daarom moeten die nu in een volgorde naar keuze worden gespeeld. Omdat er veel meer geld in het spel komt dan gebruikelijk, kunnen de spelers standaard kaarten als Platina (die 5 munten waard is) en Kolonie (die 10 overwinningspunten waard is) kopen. Verder zijn er kaarten die extra overwinningspunten in de vorm van fiches opleveren. Met deze uitbreiding worden de keuzemogelijkheden nog groter dan ze al waren!
