Takken van teak zijn lichter van kleur, hebben meer variatie in kleur en knoesten, hebben een ongelijkmatige nerf en glanzen minder, omdat het iets minder natuurlijke oliën bevat dan massief teak. Het heeft de neiging om sneller krom te trekken en te splijten. Als het niet onderhouden wordt, zal het vergrijzen tot een mooie zilvergrijze patina, vooral als het blootgesteld wordt aan zonlicht.

Om het uiterlijk en de duurzaamheid te behouden, is een behandeling tegen weersinvloeden en rot nodig. Regelmatig oliën of verzegelen helpt de oorspronkelijke kleur te behouden. Alleen geschikt voor gebruik binnenshuis of in overdekte buitenruimtes. Reinig door regelmatig af te stoffen met een zachte doek of borstel, en gebruik een vochtige doek met milde zeep voor een grondigere reiniging — vermijd doorweken.
