Standplaats: De Olea gedijt het beste op een zonnige plek, zowel binnen als buiten. Buitenplaats moet beschut zijn tegen harde wind en vorst. Binnen kan de plant het beste dicht bij een raam met veel natuurlijk licht worden geplaatst.

Waterbehoefte: De Olea heeft gematigde waterbehoefte. Laat de bovenste laag van de potgrond tussen gietbeurten opdrogen. In de zomer kan de plant iets vaker water nodig hebben dan in de winter. Overbewatering moet worden vermeden.
