Sail and Steam tells the fascinating story of the small shallow-draught ships that were once the lifeblood of northeast Tasmanian communities. Noted Tasmanian historian Garry Richardson once again demonstrates his meticulous research skills by augmenting the narrative with extensive specifications, copies of documents and images.

Part One of the book covers the vessels that worked in the nineteenth century and Part Two records twentieth century Georges Bay arrivals. In recounting the stories the book not only covers the association of each vessel with the area but also its history and that of the seafarers that sailed aboard. Part Three gives a detailed account of two important vessels built in St Helens - the 1943 auxiliary ketch Arga and the 1947 auxiliary schooner Argonaut II.

Sail and Steam, a worthy addition to the maritime literature of Tasmania, is Garry Richardson’s fourth publication with Forty South Publishing. His previous books include Tin Mountain:The European and Chinese History of the Blue Tier, Poimena and Weldborough (2014) and The Harbour: The History of Binalong Bay and Humbug Point North-East Tasmania (2010).

$1 from the sale from each copy of Sail and Steam will be donated to the Maritime Museum of Tasmania.

So comfortable!!
Size: 11, Color: Champagne Metallic
Love love love!! Great fit and work for wide-ish feet. Run a little big. Took me a couple days to break them in but now they are great. I bought a second color!!

VERY comfortable & cute sandal!
Size: 9, Color: Cognac
I needed a pair of comfortable sandals for this summer & I really got lucky with these. I have a lot of arthritis in my feet & even my $100(+) tennis shoes don’t keep the pain away. I may start with tennis shoes at the beginning of the day but 1/2 way through I slip on the Hey Dudes & all is much better! These sandals are versatile, I have worn them with jeans & shorts. They would also look nice with a skirt. They are cute & comfortable! Not only are they lightweight, it feels like you are walking on air because the sole is so cushioned. One thing I do want to mention is the fact there is A LOT of room given toward the front of the shoe. The strap that goes over the ball of your foot is looser than I am used to, even with wide feet. You aren’t able to make adjustments. When I first put them on I didn’t think I would like it but after wearing them every day for the past month I know I do. I would recommend these sandals & wonder if I should stock up in case they stop making this style??

Cushy softness
Size: 8, Color: Ivory
I’m normally a 7W and originally ordered the 7 and it was almost a perfect fit if not for my high instep. Exchanged for an 8 and they fit great just a little loose in the toe strap but I can make it work.

Ripping with minimal wear.
Size: 8, Color: Black/Black, Size: 8, Color: Black/Black
I really wanted to love these. This is my first pair of HeyDudes, and I am pretty disappointed. I don't have wide feet. They fit perfectly, and were super comfortable. But they are already ripping and I haven't even worn them 5 times. I didn't even wear them long or walk a lot in them.
