Explore the intricacies of modern life with this captivating graphic novel, 'Other Lives'. This compelling narrative follows three former college classmates, each grappling with unique challenges and identities. Meet a self-loathing journalist with deep-seated family issues, a bride-to-be whose wedding obsession teeters on chaos, and a conspiracy theorist who might sidestep the boundaries of reality. Their lives, entangled in a web of fabricated online personas, culminate in unexpected confrontations that expose the truth behind their digital facades. This edition, published by W W Norton & Company in 2022, marks a revival of the classic originally released by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint in 2010. With 136 pages of stunning artwork and thought-provoking storytelling, 'Other Lives' is not just a graphic novel; it's a reflection on the struggles of identity in an increasingly digital world. Perfect for fans of graphic novels, contemporary fiction, and those intrigued by the complex dynamics of friendship, desire, and deception. This new edition from Fantagraphics is a must-have for any serious collector or newcomer to the genre, especially following the recent acclaim surrounding the author, Peter Bagge, after the release of 'The Complete Hate'. Description:
Other Lives follows three former college classmates: a self-loathing journalist whose family secret is the least of his problems; his girlfriend, whose obsession with getting married borders on Bridezilla status; a conspiracy theorist who may or may not work for the Homeland Security but definitely lives with his mother; and a divorced, unemployed gaming addict who lives in his car. While it's their past that unites them, it's their fabricated online identities?? some more dangerous than others?? that lead to their "real" lives colliding years later.
Originally published in 2010 by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, Other Lives is Bagge's first post-Hate original graphic novel and has been out of print for several years. Fantagraphics is proud to publish this new edition, at a time when Bagge's oeuvre is enjoying renewed interest following the release of The Complete Hate in late 2020.

A book every teacher/parent should read!
Format: Hardcover
I LOVE this book because the "bad seed" reminds me of my son. I don't believe there are any "bad kids" in the world but I'm sure kids look at themselves as bad if that is all they ever hear. I love how this story gives a sympathetic backstory on how he got "so bad" and how he is trying to do better and change his bad ways. Even though my son isn't perfect, he sure does try to do good and his behavior improves when people notice the POSITIVE instead of the negative. I absolutely love the last lines of the book where the other seeds are gossiping (another lesson) saying, "Hey! There goes that bad seed," and another seed sticks up for him and says, "Actually, he isn't that bad anymore." Then the "bad seed" turns around with a smile on his face and says, "I heard that." Moral of the story.....children are always listening. Focus on the positive rather than the negative and a child's self-talk and behavior will drastically improve. My son's 2nd grade year was so negative and he was always getting into trouble. I rarely heard the good and neither did my son. His 3rd grade year was amazing. The teacher really focuses on pointing out his good choices and what a difference that made in my son's attitude toward school. Thank you Jory John for writing this book. I also love the book, "I Love You Already" which teaches readers about friendship, love, patience, loyalty and forgiveness. :)
