痰罐的由來：
痰盂 Sputum Pot，又名痰罐、痰壺、痰桶、唾壺、唾盂，是一種專門用來收集吐痰時吐出來的唾液或痰涎的器皿。痰盂一般放在餐廳的飯桌下，同時可用來收集菸蒂、食物殘渣，亦可作挪進睡房作小孩尿壺之用。但較小型的痰盂，大小有如菸灰缸或冰桶，有時亦會放在桌上。東亞傳統的痰盂是小口巨腹，有瓷、銅、漆木、搪瓷、玉等材質。
痰罐係為咗衞生而整出來嘅。因為舊時啲人會隨地吐痰，搞到好唔衞生。有痰罐就少啲周地吐痰嘅風氣，衞生得似改善。痰罐重會用嚟放排泄物同果皮細垃圾咁。痰罐有蓋，叫做痰罐蓋。
